Aspray Transport has long established itself as a leader within the carrier industry for the next day distribution of locks and hardware, nuts, bolts, engineering, fastener products and related industries. In 1998, Managing Director Patrick Laight and IT Manager Marcus Newport were in search of an integrated Time & Attendance, Personnel and Security system for their eleven sites throughout the UK, employing over 500 people.
They chose a WinTA system from Tensor because they liked the Tensor technology, especially their Smart Cards and the way in which the system could be distributed across different locations. They also felt they could build a relationship with Tensor as they developed their implementation plans.
A WinTA Enterprise and Tensor Personnel system was installed initially and this has now been extended to all eleven depots, also incorporating Access Control and Tensor's turnstiles. Originally, three members of staff were trained in the use of the WinTA system at Tensor's Training Centre in Hail Weston.“Good” was how Aspray described the quality of the training.
Marcus Newport thought that WinTA performs all the functions of Time and Attendance, Personnel Management and Security that the company requires.
“Functionality, relatively easy to use - and it's expandable” were the main features that Marcus liked about WinTA Enterprise. He also thought “the in-built help files and guides, and website features are valuable additional tools” in running the WinTA system. On the subject of how the workforce found the Tensor Smart Cards, Marcus said “Very easy to use - simply swipe where required - great for both clocking in and out and access control”.
Marcus explained to the Tensor reporter that they have implemented the Fire Roll Call system, although fortunately they have not had to use it in a real situation.
Aspray have used the Tensor Helpdek and they have used the Operations department for maintenance support. “Very good and efficient” was how he described the Operations department.
Marcus explained that Aspray are extending the Tensor system to two new sites. “Functionality, reliability, expandability and user friendliness” were the key Tensor attributes he identified.
“Yes” was the reply when Marcus was asked if he would recommend Tensor to other companies, and summing up Tensor in a few words he concluded “Excellent all round system for Time and Attendance and Personnel, including turnstiles and other Access Control.”
