James Townsend & Sons print high quality labels and other specialist printing from their factory in Exeter. In June 2003 IT Manager, Gareth Coles, and Company Secretary, Andrew Randall, were looking for a combined Time and Attendance and Access Control system for the factory and offices. It was essential that the new system provided a seamless interface to their existing Sage Payroll.
Systems from Blick (now Stanley Security Solutions Europe), Full Stop (a local company based in Exeter) and Tensor plc were review by the company. “Tensor looked much more user-friendly than Blick or Full Stop” said Gareth, “... and we liked the combined Time & Attendance and Access Control from Tensor.”
Tensor installed an Access Lite + WinTA Lite system with a Sage Payroll link in February 2004. No problems were encountered with the installation of the hardware or software. Gareth Coles and Andrew Randall were trained on the system by Tensor at the Exeter factory. “Very Good” was how Gareth Coles described the quality of the training.
“We probably don't use the Tensor system to it's full potential” explained Gareth to the Tensor reporter, “... but it does exactly what we bought it for!” he added.
Gareth Coles described how quickly the managers and staff took to the system. They especially liked the speed and long read distance of the Tensor Smart Cards. He also added how easy he found it to manage the system. “The holiday planner is absolutely excellent and the Sage Payroll link is very, very helpful” said Gareth.
James Townsend & Sons have installed the automatic Fire Roll Call feature of WinTA Lite and have had cause to use it. “It worked fine” remarked Gareth.
“Excellent” was how Gareth described his experience of using the Tensor Helpdesk. “The Sage link was not working. This was due to Sage not Tensor, but Tensor were still able to help, and point us in the right direction; very speedily” said Gareth.
When asked how Tensor could improve it's service, Gareth gave the gratifying answer “Nothing, we are very pleased with the service from Tensor.” James Townsend & Sons are also looking to purchase the new 32-bit Visitor and Vehicle Monitoring system from Tensor when it becomes available in July 2005.
Finally, when asked if he would recommend Tensor to other companies, Gareth said “Yes most definitely” and summing up Tensor in a few words he said “Tensor have a very powerful, easy-to-use Time & Attendance and Access Control system. Their after-sales support is good with very helpful staff on the Helpdesk - a very, very professional company.”
