Wabtec Rail Takes The Tensor train
Moreover, during a period of reorganisation, the Accounts Department wanted to replace the company’s time clock system because it was too time consuming to process that clock cards manually, especially at the end of the week when the punch cards were totalled and entered on a computer.
Peter Holmes, the Site Services Manager, was in charge of finding a system that could not only automate the employee time keeping function but would also provide access control to the offices. Peter looked at the various systems on offer from many companies and finally chose Tensor because he liked Tensor’s approach of having both Time & Attendance and Access Control in one software package and he liked the Tensor Smart Card, which he thought was more robust than other competitor products. In Peter’s view, the superior build quality offered by Tensor would mean that there would be fewer problems with both cards and readers.
Tensor then successfully installed a WinTA Time & Attendance and Access Control system in the company, which consisted of six Smart Card clocking stations and a number of Smart Card scanners for access control. These access control scanners replaced the manual locks in the office block where access was previously restricted to a limited of key holders.
Wabtec Rail also use the Fire Roll Call feature within WinTA, replacing a manual paper-based system they had before. Peter said, Tensor’s Fire Roll Call facility is great from our point of view, because the fire officer likes it and it instantly reports who is one site – no-one is ever missed. Even contractors and visitors on site for more than a day are issued Smart Cards. This way nobody remains unaccounted . Peter added During fire drills the Tensor system has performed well. The old system relied on key personnel checking whether staff were accounted for. With Tensor, key personnel are freed up so they can investigate why the alarm was going off in the first place!
Anybody who is works within the rail industry and is employed in safety critical jobs must adhere to the self imposed Safety Critical Working Hours Regulations explained Peter. This is where the reporting aspects of WinTA are essential, as system is not only time and attendance or access control, it’s also about the Health & Safely benefits gained from using the fire roll call functions.
Peter concluded The Tensor WinTA system is easy to use and our accounts staff have no trouble with it. Adding new employees and Smart Cards only takes a minute
