Australia silently rolling out facial recognition technology
Australia’s law enforcement agencies are quietly rolling out facial recognition technology across the country in a bid to ensure a higher level of safety and security for all its citizens, a news report has been able to reveal.
The new and advanced National Facial Biometric Matching Capability system will be able to cross-reference 100 million images, which means around four images of every Australian, including stills from CCTV footage as well as photos from drivers’ licenses, passports and other identification documents that the agencies have access to.
The system will initially provide one-to-one image-based verification service among Commonwealth agencies, with other agencies expected to join over time.
A one-to-many image-based identification service will follow to allow law enforcement and security agencies to match one photograph of an unknown person against many photographs contained in government records to help establish their identity.
Tensor – experts in deploying facial recognition technology
Tensor has an extensive experience in deploying solutions that employ facial recognition technology for a variety of customers. Our expertise and technical know-how enables us to easily integrate video surveillance into other security systems including ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), Access Control and Facial Recognition to name a few, in order to enhance and improve the security and efficiency at your site.
Tensor face biometrics are used to identify users from access control lists and verify their identity. Our access control solution facilitates user management at runtime and allows users to be enrolled on-the-fly by video capture.
This technology yields excellent performance despite partial occlusions of the face, the use of glasses, scarves or caps, changes of facial expression, and moderate rotations of the face. Moreover, it does not allow users to be impersonated using photographs. Tensor biometric technology is the perfect solution to control the access of personnel to restricted security areas.
Tensor plc’s services cover consultancy, concept, design, procurement, manufacturing, installation, maintenance, training and monitoring.
