Metropolitan Police Acting Commissioner Tim Godwin has thanked the public for their support of the Met following the recent looting and disorder in the capital. In an open letter Mr Godwin said Londoners have helped police identify the looters and so far more than 1,000 people have been charged with offences. He added: "Individual officers have proudly told me stories of being offered cups of tea, meals, rest facilities or being applauded as they walk down the street."
