Biometric time and attendance system considered for schools in Saudi Arabia

Biometric time and attendance systems are likely to become commonplace across schools in Saudi Arabia, as the country’s education minister has revealed plans to float tenders for such systems as soon as it drafts the specification handbook for the program, according to a news report in the local media.

The ministry opened the bidding process where it encouraged companies to bid on the contract for providing 45 education departments with biometric time and attendance systems for attendance recording. The move comes after many Saudi Arabian school principals announced that they have installed surveillance cameras at school building for monitoring purposes and to impose administrative discipline on students and teachers.

The ministry of education will conduct the implementation of the biometric time and attendance system in three stages, starting with the system’s deployment at the ministry’s new headquarters and all education departments outside the headquarters for boys and girls within a one year time frame.

For the second stage, the biometric time and attendance system will be implemented at the offices of education within less than three months of ending the first stage.

And finally, the third stage will involve boys and girls schools for all levels of study and will be implemented within less than six months of completing the second stage.
