Bomb threat leads to emergency evacuation at Southend Civic Centre
Fire Roll Call systems that are fully integrated within a building’s Time and Attendance or Access Control system provide a life-saving functionality in emergency situations when the rapid and orderly evacuation of personnel working on site is required.
This is specifically the type of situation that has recently occurred at Southend Civic Centre in February, when a member of the public went to reception claiming there was a bomb in the building. The council put its well-rehearsed emergency plans into operation and the building was swiftly evacuated.
Police attended the scene and later gave the all-clear.
Council leader Ron Woodley, said: “I would like to commend the calm, swift and professional way in which this incident was handled by our staff and with the assistance of the police.
“Protecting the safety of staff and the public is our top priority and the actions taken ensured that no one was put in harm’s way.
“The police are continuing to investigate this incident and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
Fire Roll Call systems help you evacuate employees faster in case of an emergency
Tensor has implemented a top-quality Fire Roll Call feature within all of our Time & Attendance and Access Control systems.
Our Fire Roll Call systems can control up to two printers for evacuation reporting purposes. On activation of a fire alarm panel, automatic roll-call reports are printed listing the names and departments of cardholders who remain on-site. In addition, doors can be configured to open automatically on fire alarm activation and lock automatically once the fire alarm activation condition has ceased.
Reports can be grouped by a cardholder’s default resident fire point or by the fire point that they are currently booked on to. Printers are connected either via a direct cable connection or by direct IP and can be limited to reporting upon specific zones or fire points.
Plus, muster points can also be installed where cardholders scan upon arrival at a Muster point. In real-time, Tensor.NET Access removes the cardholder from the fire roll-call report to provide a real-time roll call of any cardholders who remain in the building.
