Facial recognition CCTV systems are among the most effective tools that could be used by football teams and associations in order to prevent football violence.
Facial recognition has been recently deployed by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) at the Estadio Centenario, in a bid to combat violence. The new facial recognition CCTV system installed on the premises features 80 cameras covering all access areas, works in low lighting conditions (at night) and identifies faces at a very high speed (25 faces per second).
Officials in the AUF revealed that there are currently more than 100 people blacklisted due to their history of violence. It is believed that installing this system and preventing access for people on the blacklist will help prevent football violence.
