This sort of situation has recently occurred at the Regents Park Community College in Southampton, which was evacuated and searched by police for an explosive device.

The school was evacuated after a suspected hoax bomb threat. Hampshire Police said officers were called after a bomb threat was made by telephone against the school. Children at the 650-pupil school were all evacuated and sent home as specialist officers the premises for a potential explosive device.

Nothing suspicious was found at the scene and a 21-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police were notified this morning after a bomb threat was made to Regents Park Community College, Southampton, by telephone.

“The school took the decision to evacuate the pupils and staff, and a search was carried out. Police attended as part of the investigation and we are currently treating this as a hoax. Nothing suspicious has been found at the scene.

“At this time, it is believed the threat was a malicious hoax and there is no direct risk to pupils, staff or the wider community.”
