Flexible working helps small businesses improve their productivity
An impressive two thirds of small businesses across the UK have implemented specific measures to improve their productivity over the past year and, as such, expected their output over the next couple of years, a recent research report has been able to reveal.
The paper by Albion Ventures suggests that improved training and increasing the opportunities for flexible working are among the initiates that have been launched to better productivity, with 30 percent of businesses opting to improve systems, while 24 percent invested in new technology.
Findings suggest that accelerating the level of productivity in the British small business sector may lead to the reversal of the productivity deficit. Only three percent of small businesses interviewed predicted that their output would decline further by 2017, while 36 percent predicted that it would remain the same.
In fact, the paper further points out the importance of productivity as a key indicator for growth. Of those companies that predicted increased productivity, the vast majority, 89 percent, predicted sustained growth, compared to just 61% among all firms. Similarly, of those firms that see their productivity stagnating, only 36% predicted that they will grow in the next year.
The report shows though that productivity improvements have been pursued most aggressively by medium sized businesses, of which 86% percent have adopted measures to boost output, compared to just 56% of small firms.
Tensor Time and Attendance Systems – the perfect solution for improving your company’s productivity
Making sure that employees are at peak productivity levels at all times is very important for line managers, who should consider using a solid and reliable time and attendance system designed to offer a clear overview of all holiday bookings and approve (or disallow) them accordingly.
That’s exactly the case with Tensor’s WinTA.NET system, which supports extensive Absence Planning and Entitlement Management. The built-in graphical calendar charts provide a colourful way of viewing an individual’s or a department’s absence records, and each employee can be allocated different entitlements for absence such as annual leave or allowed sickness.
As absence is booked and taken, the remainder available for each entitlement is updated. Entitlement formulae are used to calculate more complex entitlements calculated on a rising scale based upon length of service.
WinTA.NET provides this information through warning email notifications or via hardcopy reports. The system quickly identifies missing employees that are expected to be at work and then informs you via automatic email reporting reports distributed by email.
