Industrial estate in Blackburn is promptly evacuated after fire

Implementing a secure and reliable solution for managing the evacuation of personnel working within a plant in case of an emergency is really a vital measure for the industrial segment, considering just how dangerous and potentially deadly a fire can prove to be in this environment.

That was exactly the case with a recent blaze on an industrial estate in Blackburn, where firefighters were called in to deal with a fire involving faulty acetylene cylinders. Acetylene is an industrial gas used for metal cutting and welding, and can be extremely dangerous when involved in an uncontrolled fire.

The fire was discovered by an employee who immediately raised the alarm. The blaze was extinguished relatively quickly, but as the cylinders are potentially highly explosive, firefighters remained on the scene for several hours, using specialist equipment to fully cool the cylinders and secure the area.

In order to mitigate for the occurrence of such potentially dangerous situations, Tensor has implemented a top-quality Fire Roll Call feature within all of our Time & Attendance and Access Control systems.

Our systems can control up to two printers for evacuation reporting purposes. On activation of a fire alarm panel, automatic roll-call reports are printed listing the names and departments of cardholders who remain on-site. In addition, doors can be configured to open automatically on fire alarm activation and lock automatically once the fire alarm activation condition has ceased.

Reports can be grouped by a cardholder's default resident fire point or by the fire point that they are currently booked on to. Printers are connected either via a direct cable connection or by direct IP and can be limited to reporting upon specific zones or fire points.

Plus, muster points can also be installed where cardholders scan upon arrival at a Muster point. In real-time, Tensor.NET Access removes the cardholder from the fire roll-call report to provide a real-time roll call of any cardholders who remain in the building.
