Industry body urges companies the tackle youth unemployment
The CIPD, the professional body for HR and people development, is urging companies to do their best in order to help tackle youth unemployment, a brand new media report has revealed.
While a recent survey conducted by the CIPD as part of its Learning to Work programme revealed that close to a third of UK employers have actually managed to accelerate their efforts towards bringing more young people on board, the truth of the matter is that the gap between school and work is still too wide for this age category.
Figures from the survey suggest that among employers who offer apprenticeship schemes, 56% report they have increased the number over the past 12 months. The study of 1,000 employers also showed the amount of traineeships and school-leaver programmes on offer has increased in many organisations.
On the other hand, the same study also revealed that, while more companies do offer young people extensive avenues of employment, very few employers are actually receiving applications from young people aged 16-24. In fact, close to (24%) of employers did not receive a single application from a young person over the past year and 31% of private sector organisations had no applications from young people.
Companies who do wish to help reduce youth unemployment and are willing to use this young talent pool should also implement extensive workforce management solutions, that will help them provide a superior level of support for these inexperienced workers, and this is specifically where Tensor plc can put its extensive experience to very good use.
