Jobs have been created for between 40 and 50 staff in a new catering block which cost a total of £5 million, three quarters of a million below its budget. The new centre at Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital replaces the former 1960s building and includes an advanced system of sensors and computer controlled ovens, cookers and kettles. Martin Cantor, catering project manager, said: "The food will be far more fresh than it is now. The biggest difference for patients is that they will be able to make their choice on the day." The catering staff will be based on wards preparing the meals.
