What is Facial Recognition Access Control?
A facial recognition access control system has the ability to match a human face from a digital image or a video frame against a database of faces. It enables personnel identification, while granting or denying access into a particular area or room of a building. Along with extremely high matching speeds and accuracy, a facial recognition access control system also ensures the maximum level of security.
Providing a fast and highly accurate biometric solution for identifying employees and/or visitors, a facial recognition access control system gives you complete control over who has access to your site. This article explains the main benefits it can have for businesses and building security along with other key features.
How facial recognition access control works
A facial recognition access control system is a camera-based reader that typically sits at the entrance to your business, or to a specific/access-controlled room.
It works using computer algorithms to pick out specific, distinctive details about a person’s face, such as the distance between the eyes or shape of the chin works - even with sunglasses or hats on. These algorithms are then converted into a mathematical representation and compared to data on other faces collected in a face recognition database.
This advanced technology has the ability to work day or night, in any weather condition (including rain) or lighting. It includes live face detection so it is also able to differentiate between a real face and a photograph.
Benefits of a facial recognition access control system
There is a huge range of benefits that come with a Tensor facial recognition access control system. Explained in more detail below, these benefits include the ultimate level of access control security available, our unrivalled access control software as well as being completely contact-free.
The ultimate level of access control security
Facial recognition access control systems ensure maximum security for your business and/or building due to them not requiring the use of smart cards or fingerprints. The Suprema FaceLite facial recognition access control system absolutely guarantees that no unauthorised personnel are able to enter or exit your building.
Whilst biometric readers and smart card access control systems require a smart card or a fingerprint to gain access or egress to a building, the facial recognition system does not. This eliminates employees clocking each other in and out of shifts, while also ensuring that only authorised people are on-site, meaning your workplace or building is safe at all times. Employees using smart card access control systems also have the tendency to lose cards and fobs, meaning new ones have to be produced as replacements - another benefit of facial recognition.
Unrivalled access control systems and software
Tensor’s facial recognition access control system is fully supported by our WinAC.NET access control software suite.
WinAC.NET is a powerful and secure access control software suite that is integral to Tensor’s facial recognition access control system. It provides quick and easy access to information on your computer or mobile phone and has the ability to control a single door and identification point, through to a fully computerised networked facial recognition access control system.
With WinAC.NET and Tensor’s facial recognition system, you can control most standard types of internal and external electronic, magnetic door releases and devices, making full use of all facial recognition location points, whether in full view or hidden out of sight.
Our access control software can assure you that you will receive a simple to use, highly secure way of controlling access to areas or buildings, as well as monitoring who is present 24 hours a day.
Take control of your businesses access
Each employee or person is assigned to an access group, either unique to them or to their department. Access groups can be controlled using your access control software suite, granting them access to certain areas of a building or through certain doors.
When an attempt is made to pass through an access point, the facial recognition scanner will compare that employee’s security profile with the access point’s profile. The door will then be released if the employee has access rights. A log is generated, regardless of whether an access attempt was successful or not, allowing you to see who has been going where on your site.
Win.AC.NET includes a fire evacuation feature known as Fire Roll Call. It can control up to two printers for evacuation reporting purposes. On activation of a fire alarm panel, automatic roll-call reports are printed listing the names and departments of cardholders who remain on-site. In addition, doors can be configured to open automatically on fire alarm activation and lock automatically once the fire alarm activation condition has ceased.
Facial recognition access control is completely contactless
After the outbreak of COVID-19 and other viruses around the world, it is vitally important that businesses have safety measures in place to keep their employees safe at work. With a facial recognition access control system in place, you can guarantee a completely touch-free and contactless method for employees to clock in and out of work and gain access into restricted areas within the building.
“Facial recognition should be everywhere in our society. Many lives have been saved by this system being available. I cannot believe it's not in every city and town.”
— Chris Turner, Director of Football, Wakefield AFC
